As technology continues to progress, we have more ways than ever before to communicate with others. However, we think most would agree we are actually more out of touch than ever before. Not only are we out of touch with others — not knowing there true intentions, wishes, needs, even personalities — but we are also growing more out of touch with ourselves. How can one begin to know others when they don't even know him or herself? We feel you get to know others by knowing yourself. And much of how you get to know yourself is through your personal interactions with others. When training in the martial arts, we tap into our training partners' rhythms, energies, and cadences. Not only do we supply, but we also receive more data through multiple senses with eye contact, physical contact, body language, etc. This carries over to the outside world where we are better prepared to communicate with others. Whether it's good, bad, or ugly — we're better equipped to handle the interaction. With text, email, and social media, we are losing the ability to effectively interact and communicate with others in person. Don't text for a day, a week, even a month. Call that person or go talk to them face to face. See how your life changes.
Do you agree most people are too reliant on digital devices and not enough face-to-face talking occurs these days. Comment below.
