All students at Hoover Karate Academy will progress through curriculum based upon perfection of skill and knowledge, not time attended. Specific class formats have been designed with the needs of each particular age group in mind.
Pre-K Format (Ages 4 & 5)
This thirty minute class will introduce your young child to the martial arts while providing them with an excellent source of exercise in an energetic and warm environment. Children will learn to master basic martial arts skills, understand self control and self discipline, and will also be introduced to “stranger awareness”. Classes are offered once or twice weekly at the West location.
Kids Format (Ages 6 – 9)
Children who have graduated from the Pre-K Class or new students with no prior knowledge about the martial arts will be introduced to our full martial arts curriculum in the Kids Beginner Class. These classes are one hour long and focus on basic kicks, strikes, blocks, and self-defense techniques while also incorporating exercise and discipline. Classes for this age group are offered three times weekly at both HKA locations.
Junior I Format (Ages 10 – 12)
This unique class was created with the needs of the pre-adolescent in mind. More challenging than the Kids Format but less structured than a Junior II or Adult Class, the Junior I Format incorporates basic curriculum with exercise and fun in a setting where students are encouraged to train and learn with their peers. Classes are offered up to three times weekly at both HKA locations.
Junior II Format (Ages 13 – 17)
The Junior II curriculum is exclusively for teens with an interest in the martial arts. This high-energy class incorporates a mixture of fitness, technique, discipline, and fun. Curriculum is taught in an environment where students are encouraged to interact with their peers by an instructor who is sensitive to the needs of this specific age group. Classes are offered up to three times weekly at both HKA locations.
Adult Format (Age 18+)
The Adult Format at Hoover Karate Academy allows students of all ages and fitness levels to engage in a complete physical workout while learning a progressive art form. Each two hour class offers a combination of physical fitness, technique, philosophy, meditation and self defense. Morning, evening, and weekend classes are offered at both locations to accommodate all schedules.
Traditional Adult Format (Mature Adult)
The Traditional Adult format was designed specifically for students who seek a more traditional martial arts setting with an emphasis on technique, meditation, and philosophy. While this class still provides a complete workout, it is less physically demanding than the regular Adult Class format. Classes are offered two evenings per week at the West location.
